Mommy Haircut

On the day my baby hit twelve weeks (and peaked past 15 pounds), I caved and got the mommy cut. It's not super short, but at shoulder length, it's shorter than I have been in a long time. But I just couldn't stand the little darling hanging by fistfuls of my hair any longer.

The case of the rashy baby

Just call me Nancy Drew (minus the cool convertible, blonde hair, and Ned).

At Zachary's two-month appointment last week, he still had some cradle cap and a little bit of excema. The pediatrician recommended baby oil for his head and a brushing out and slathering him in Eucerin and Aquafor. The first application of baby oil on Tuesday resulted in a bright read head for baby Z. I figured that he of the so-sensitive skin that we still have to use washcloths and not wipes on his tender derriere was sensitive to the fragrance listed as the only other ingredient beside mineral oil. And didn't repeat that process. For the rest of the week and weekend, I slathered him in the lotions to no avail. So, this weekend I tried the hard core Aquafor repeatedly all day. On Monday, he was so covered in a rash that he looked like he had a sunburn. So, we made a trip to the pediatrician (a fill-in as his regular one was out for the day) who was stumped and referred us to a dermatologist who we visited later that afternoon. The dermatologist presccribed two steroidal potions and gave me sample lotions. I was also advised to wash all his clothes in Tide Free and dress him in only cotton and to go back to giving him liquid formula instead of the powder we had just started.

By Tuesday, he had started to look a little better. This mornign he woke up all bright red again and all scratched up. I finally started lookign at all of the the ingredients of the different products we had used in the last week and the common deonoimator?- mineral oil. I didn't think someone could be allergic to mineral oil and it is one of the most common remedies for cradle cap and excema. But, apparently, for a small few it can cause a rash. So, all of the products we have purchased this week will be headed for the trash can.

To my little Valentine

I stare at you and can't imagine my life without you. Just like your daddy did, you opened up a part of my heart I didn't know I had. I think of the years to come when you will make me little valentines that I will always treasure. And I ponder the day when I will no longer be the first woman in your heart and you bring home that special girl. But nothing will replace this very first Valentine's Day with my new love.

Two-month appointment

The appointment went as well as can be expected. He is 24 inches (although the nurse never really stretches him out so I suspect he is a bit longer) and weighed 13 lbs, 13 oz. So 89 percentile for weight and 83 for height. I am going to have to pull out the six-month sleepers here because he has reached the bottom of the toesies.

I was almost in tears immediately following his shots. His cries were so pitiful- as if to say, "How could you let this happen to me, Mommy." For the remainder of the day, he slept in my arms and cried when he was awake. Poor little guy.

But here are some pictures from last week (of happier times):

Finally, a picture of a smile. He has smiled a lot but never when I can get it on camera

This is his warm-up routine prior to a half roll

Loving sitting at the kitchen table in his chair

Just for fun

Sleep mania

Zachary has been asleep in his bed for 10.5 hours now and is still going. And this was after I said I didn't think he would sleep well last night because I couldn't get him to eat much of his bottle because he was so tired. And I, of course, slept terribly because I kept waking up sure that his stirring meant he was awake.

Unfortunately, we are going to have to wake him soon for him to go to his two-month pediatrician appointment. Poor little guy, to be awakened from peaceful slumber for shots.

Shhh

I don't want to jinx it again, but last night Zachary slept for seven straight hours, this followed 6.5 the night before. He is still not tolerating taking naps unless held but at least night time sleep is going well. I am going more actively to try to get him down starting on Thursday. Tomorrow, we are going for two-month pictures.
We went back to the mom's group today and he weighed in at 13 pounds, 9 ounces. The sleeves of his three-month sleepers are getting too short and his toes are at the very bottom. The middles are still swimming on him, but it looks like I am going to have to pull out the six-month sizes pretty soon.

This is our new favorite find. Zachary loves sitting up at the table with us and finally we can actually eat meals without holding him. Now, I am on the lookout for a front carrier that is actually easy to get on and doesn't make me feel like a mountaineer.
