Hitting the Bullseye

In an effort to do our part for the economy (and because I have only been to church and medical appointments since December 4th and was getting a little stir crazy), we made our first retail expedition con kiddo. There seems to be something magical in that little car seat because again Zachary slept through it all despite the 50% clearance on Christmas items at Ta.rget.

All was calm

Zachary made his first appearance at church on Christmas Eve. Despite his fussiness 30 minutes before arriving, he slept beautifully through the entire service and we all sighed with relief.

Merry Christmas

to all (and wishing any new parents a somewhat silent night).

A perfect ten

Ten-pounder, that is. At his two week (really 17-day) well-baby check, our son clocked in on the scale at an even ten pounds- so he gained a pound in a week. Can't say he's not getting enough to eat. His weight is at the 80th percentile for his age and his length is at 87th percentile.

The pediatrician pronounced him "perfect." This is the third doctor to do so. His grandma agrees.

Pumping like a fiend and hearing subliminal voices

Because of low blood sugar at birth (thanks to my gestational diabetes), Zachary was given a bottle of formula right away. He apparently thought the bottle was the greatest invention ever since it requires very little effort to get to the good stuff and breastfeeding has been too troublesome for him to learn as he is an "impatient eater." Even the lactation consultant was at her wit's end because when he gets hungry he wants to be fed yesterday.

My supply has not kept up with his voracious needs but I am pumping and thanks to the suggestion of the lactation consultant- "power pumping." I swear the pump is sending me subliminal messages. I just know it is beating out a different message each time I turn it on. Sometimes, I hear "lactate, lactate." Other times, it is "Zachary, Zachary." And occasionally, there are some made-up words. Maybe it's the sleep deprivation? Or maybe the thing is possessed?

A Dream Come True

Our every wish came true on December 6, 2008, when Zachary William entered the world. This little sign is in his room to remind us of how blessed we are.
